Caregiver Approval Review

The Caregiver Support and Review Policy came into effect on 27th April 2009 requiring caregiver social workers to complete an annual home visit review of all whānau and non whānau caregivers.   Read the full article for further details.

All existing caregivers have to be reviewed by 1 June 2010, so visits will need to be scheduled throughout the coming year. To ease caregivers’ anxiety about the review it is recommended that you ring them to explain the process, agree a visit time and send a Letter to caregivers about annual reviews to confirm your visiting arrangement.

New caregivers (whānau and non whānau) should be advised during assessment that an annual review will take place within a month of their anniversary.  We will need to obtain consent every second year from both new and existing caregivers to update our Police, Medical and Child, Youth and Family records.

Once the visits and reviews have been completed caregiver social workers can record their recommendations (re-approval/decline/on hold) and supervisors can confirm the status under the casenote headed Yearly Review.
