Team Planning Resources
We are working to support services coordinators and interagency teams using the team planning resources to help them develop plans that specifically address the child’s underlying needs and allow them to clearly measure the progress made.
“When there are a multitude of factors impacting on the child, identifying which are causal and which are symptomatic can be tricky,” says Clare Shepherd, Leader Professional Practice and Development. “Teams are reporting that their joint conversations unpacking the complexity are very beneficial, and taking the time to peel back the layers, to discuss each other’s views and understandings, is enlightening for everyone. Once teams have a shared understanding of the young person’s needs, developing a plan and setting specific, measurable goals becomes easier.”
The HCN Advisors have already had some feedback from teams engaged in the planning process. One team member, who had been reluctant to participate in what she expected to be a “long paper exercise” reported after the second meeting: “That was so useful - it was one of the best meetings I have been to for (child)”.
Another team member engaged in goal setting said: “I understand now - you want us to set goals that are very specific - I can see how we will be able to report on these at review time. It's really clear.”
Services coordinators are reporting that plans are easier to collate because they “make sense”.
Once the child's underlying needs (the concerns) have been identified and described (what it looks like), teams are finding that the planning that follows is robust and clear.
